自転車やトライアスロン関連の英語のトレーニング文献を幾つか読んで最初に目から鱗だったのは、トレーニングとは「いかにして頑張らないで結果を出すか」という点に注力していたこと。手を抜け、ということではなく、最小限の努力で最大限の結果を出すにはどうすればいいのか、という観点から様々な手法が検討されている。
